Guest Post – Dead? Famous? No! I’m an Author by Jo Franklin
I am super excited to have been asked to be part of the blog tour for the first of three wonderful laugh-out-loud books in a new series by Jo Franklin, Help! I’m an Alien!
Help I’m An Alien was released on the 28th May 2016 published by Troika Books.
A huge thank you to Andrea Reece for having me on this wonderful tour.
For my stop on the blog tour I have a brilliant guest post for the wonderful author Jo Franklin!
The first of three laugh-out-loud books in a new series Help! I’m an Alien tells the story of Daniel Kendall, who takes his big sister at her word when she explains that the reason he looks different to the rest of his family is because he is in fact an alien, kindly adopted by her parents. When Daniel consults his friends, Freddo and Gordon the Geek, they decide to do whatever it takes to return him to his alien home – with results nobody predicted!
Illustrations by Aaron Belcha make this even more fun.
Dead? Famous? No! I’m an Author
When I first became a writer, I had no idea how long it would take me to get published. Put it this way, you can count the time in decades. In those early days I didn’t know anything about the publishing industry and I was still learning how to write, but I wanted to be Sylvia Plath . A dead, famous writer. She died on 11th February which is also my birthday, so I felt we had a connection.
I wrote my first books in my twenties. Now we’d call them YA, but then I thought I was writing literary fiction because my work didn’t fit into any other genre –crime, romance or horror. There weren’t many genres in those days. But I never finished my books because they didn’t have an ending. Somehow I had missed out the important step of learning how to plot a novel.
My writing took a back seat while I did other things like have a proper job and eventually a family. While I love my children very much, I found full-time parenting very boring, so after a ten year break I started writing again.
I joined an online writing forum and soon realised that I had a lot to learn about the publishing industry. I also needed to work very hard to develop my craft.
Seven years and ten books later, the world of publishing was ready for me and I was taken on by my wonderful agent Anne Clark who laughed when she read my manuscript. Result! And now that manuscript is a book – Help I’m an Alien is published by Troika Books, with two other titles in the series to follow.
Hooray, I’m a writer and I am still alive. I’m not famous yet, but that’s another story.
