Gina is a YA author. Her latest books are YA thrillers Love You to Death (2023) and You Can Trust Me (2022) and twisty fairy tale retellings Good Enough to Eat (2022) and All The Better To See You, a Red Riding Hood whodunnit (2021) published by Scholastic. Gina has also published three teen thrillers with Macmillan – Pretty Twisted (2011), Forget Me Never (2012) and Saving Silence (2013).

Gina lives in North London. She has an English degree from Cambridge University and now works in schools liaison, helping teenagers puzzle out the mysteries of higher education. Between the ages of 11 and 15 she wrote an epic 36 part story featuring over 1,000 characters - she still remembers most of their names!

These shiny Point Horrors always make the perfect indoor firework as pretty as a sparkler 🥰

It’s Bonfire night here in the U.K. or Guy Fawkes Night as it’s sometimes known. It commemorates the failed gunpowder plot of 1605 in which Guy Fawkes and co attempted to blow up the Houses of Parliament with gunpowder to assassinate the then King, James I

I’ve always found it a little strange how we celebrate this but as the years have gone on it’s become an evening of the cold nipping at your nose whilst standing around a homemade fire, setting off fire works in the back garden or attending a firework display, eating burgers and sausages cooked on the BBQ, lighting sparklers and writing your name in the glow or even just snuggling on up inside and hiding from it all 😂

Halloween is all about honouring those who have passed and it was my absolute honour to sit down with the wonderful Casey Ellis, son of author Carol Ellis, to chat about his wonderful Mom who sadly passed away a couple of years ago now.

Here are a few words from Casey …

“When my mother, Carol Ellis, passed away in 2022 I realized amidst my terrible grief that I was fortunate to have some very concrete, permanent reminders of her. My mom spent much of her professional life as an author of books for young people, primarily some well-remembered teen-oriented thrillers. While she had always been somewhat indifferent about her life as an author, I was always proud of her, and decided to go through her most significant books and post memorial comments on Goodreads about all of them. My mom wrote, ghost wrote, and/or co-wrote a vast number of books but I decided to limit myself to the twenty-one novels she wrote under her own name, and that she had at least a fairly large degree of creative control over. While she was never a megastar, my mother always had her fans, and still does. I hope these reviews will provide some pleasant moments to the people who enjoyed and continue to enjoy her work, just as they have been my way of honoring the memory of the best mom ever. “

𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝟏: 𝐑𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐨𝐥

Halloween is all about honouring those who have passed and it was my absolute honour to sit down with the wonderful Casey Ellis, son of author Carol Ellis, to chat about his wonderful Mom who sadly passed away a couple of years ago now.

Here are a few words from Casey …

“When my mother, Carol Ellis, passed away in 2022 I realized amidst my terrible grief that I was fortunate to have some very concrete, permanent reminders of her. My mom spent much of her professional life as an author of books for young people, primarily some well-remembered teen-oriented thrillers. While she had always been somewhat indifferent about her life as an author, I was always proud of her, and decided to go through her most significant books and post memorial comments on Goodreads about all of them. My mom wrote, ghost wrote, and/or co-wrote a vast number of books but I decided to limit myself to the twenty-one novels she wrote under her own name, and that she had at least a fairly large degree of creative control over. While she was never a megastar, my mother always had her fans, and still does. I hope these reviews will provide some pleasant moments to the people who enjoyed and continue to enjoy her work, just as they have been my way of honoring the memory of the best mom ever. “

Brenda hates her cousin, Halley, and she’s not the only one. Halley shouldn’t go around stealing other people’s boyfriends, it could get her into trouble. Big trouble – because Brenda is determined to have her revenge.

Some Thoughts -

Brenda and her friends are plotting a Halloween party with homemade terrifying Halloween costumes including a clown, a monk and the most terrifying of all ever Halloween costumes….a peacock! But then Brenda’a cousin Halley comes to stay and sets her sights on Brenda’s boyfriend Ted! And over a truck full of buns and a hard gear stick Ted falls for Halley and snogs her under Brenda’s bedroom window! This makes Brenda mad enough to plot revenge! Brenda means business….murder! But not any old murder! A Halloween Murder!

Other highlights include a murder plot within a murder plot, messages written in blood, bitchy characters who should not be friends, rubbish love interests , a random chapter from another characters point of view and and finding out that a pumpkin coming alive in your nightmares would make a wet sucking sound 🤣

Oh and possibly the worst parents in Point Horror who make their child sleep in a room covered in blood!

There were some really fab horror moments in this book too 🖤
