Spotlight – The Dead House by Dawn Kurtagich
So today I wanted to shine a spotlight on an upcoming book that I am hugely excited about reading!
The Dead House by Dawn Kurtagich is released on the 6th August 2015 and is published by Orion Childrens Books and is set to be one creepy read! And we all know I like a creepy read right?!
I am lucky enough to have been passed on a proof copy of this book which I will be reading very soon and reviewing and I met the lovely awesome Dawn at #YALC who signed my proof and made me smile. Dawn appeared on the Horror panel at #YALC which was full of creepy insightful questions and stories.
So what’s The Dead House all about……
Twenty-five years ago, Elmbridge High School burned down. The blaze killed three and injured twenty, and one pupil, Carly Johnson, disappeared. For two decades, little was revealed about what became known as the Johnson Incident.
Until now.
A diary has been found in the ruins of the school. In this diary, Kaitlyn Johnson, Carly’s twin, tells of the strange and disturbing sequence of events leading to the incident.
But Kaitlyn doesn’t exist. She never has.
Chilling, creepy and compelling, THE DEAD HOUSE is one of those very special books that finds all the dark places in your imagination, and haunts you long after you’ve finished reading.
Debut author Dawn Kurtagich masterfully weaves together a thrilling and terrifying story using psychiatric reports, witness testimonials, video footage, and the discovered diary – and as the mystery grows, the horrifying truth about what happened that night unfolds.
Now if I wasn’t excited for this book enough already the finished copy of this book is sooooooo pretty! They actually sold out at #YALC too!

*cowers in the corner and whimpers*
*screams in terror*
Hurting who?! Who’s gone?! AND WHATS IN THE ROOM WITH HER?!
*pulls blanket over head and hides*
I’m scared already and I haven’t started reading the book yet!
About Dawn Kurtagich
Dawn Kurtagich is a writer of creepy, spooky and psychologically sinister YA fiction, where girls may descend into madness, boys may see monsters in men, and grown-ups may have something to hide. Her debut YA novel, The Dead House, is forthcoming from Orion/Indigo (UK) and Little, Brown Books for Young Readers (US) in 2015.
By the time she was eighteen, she had been to fifteen schools across two continents. The daughter of a British globe-trotter and single mother, she grew up all over the place, but her formative years were spent in Africa–on a mission, in the bush, in the city and in the desert.
She has been lucky enough to see an elephant stampede at close range, a giraffe tongue at very close range, and she once witnessed the stealing of her (and her friends’) underwear by very large, angry baboons. (This will most definitely end up in a book . . . ) While she has quite a few tales to tell about the jumping African baboon spider, she tends to save these for Halloween!
