Tales Post – #ThisIsWhoIAm – My Time Capsule

Last month the lovely people at Pan MacMillan asked us to share a time capsule to celebrate the publication of The Square Root Of Summer by the lovely Harriet Reuter Hapgood.

The idea being what would you put in your time capsule to represent you.

Chelley’s Time Capsule

Photos of family and friends

My family and my friends mean so so much to me.  I would literally fill my time capsule with tonnes of photos of them.  Lots of photos of my Mom and bmy husband and son will be found in my time capsule.  I really believe a photo captures a thousand memories.  A smile.  A laugh.  Tears of happiness and sadness and of time passing by year after year.  I would never want to forget these memories so these are a must for my time capsule.

Beaches

I would have to hope that in the future there would still be DVD players as I would be putting a copy of this film in my time capsule.  I watched this film when I was very young (I’m guessing around the age of 9 or 10).  I truly believe that this film helped shaped me as a person and with the friendships I have had with people over the years whether that be a friend who is in my life briefly or still friends to this day.  If you have seen the film you will know that Beaches follows the lives of two women who become unlikely friends when they are children and follows their life through significant life events throughout the years.  We experience the high and lows of the friendship , but one thing remains constant throughout and that is the love that they have for each other even up to the very end.  This is my fave film and I am sure I have watched it over 100 times …. And cried everytime!

Nirvana – Nevermind

In a complete contrast to the above I would put this album in my time capsule and hope that CD players are still around.  I mean what an album!  This album was on repeat during my teenage years and Kurt Cobain was plastered over my bedroom wall.  I would put this in to remember those teenage years of sitting in my bedroom learning the Teen Spirit riff on my guitar without a care in the world.

My Watership Down Necklace

This is a relatively new item for me.  My husband bought it for me last Christmas and it made me cry.  Watership Down is my fave children’s book.  It captured my heart completely and I would put this necklace in to remind me of that and my hubby.

One Day by David Nicholls

Of course I would have to pop a book in my time capsule.  I have two ultimate faves, but as I have already but a Watership Down related item in the capsule I would therefore pick One Day by David Nicholls as a book to treasure.  This book, to me, is just perfection.  I have a very tattered well-loved copy that is in fact signed and dedicated to me from when I met David (and fan girled so hard at him).  This is my go to comfort read.  I love this book with all my heart and I will never grow tired of reading it over and over again.

Peanut Butter

Basically anything with peanut butter in whether that be chocolate or just a jar of the stuff .

*Drools thinking about it*

Mind you it may be a bit mouldy by the time the capsule is opened…..oh well NOM NOM NOM.

A Letter

Lastly I would write a letter.  A little like this blog post which hopefully will tell people a little but about me.
