Some Thoughts -

Rich snob and popular bitch Cassandra Rockham is throwing her annual fall party and Sarah and her friends all get an unexpected invite. But why would she invite the unpopular crowd?

Cassandra certainly gives them a party they will never forget. They played musical chairs and become part of the party with Cassandra’s very own “people hunt” game!

Cassandra gets Sarah and her friends locked up in rooms around the house and instruct people to follow the clues to find them and collect stickers to win!

Think Saw….but with brightly coloured stickers instead!

But someone begins playing another game and putting Sarah and her friends into new hiding places and facing near certain death things take a sinister twist….but who is doing this and why?

Other highlights include a decent love interest, lots of mild peril ie people locked up in freezers, saunas and cars, a super posh mansion and a lesson in how we should throw a dart!

I really really LOVED this Point Horror! I think this one could actually stand up to a present day audience really well. And be a movie!

It’s #talespointhorrorbookclub where we will be talking about The Invitation by Diane Hoh 💌

In 1996 Scholastic released three special edition Point Horror hardbacks (which you can sometimes pick up pretty cheap on eBay). Diane Hoh was the focus of the second hardback simply titled The Diane Hoh Special Edition 💚

This edition included the The Fever, Funhouse and The Invitation and I love how the cover art included folded down corners, a creepy hand peeping through the cover making the hardback look quite rough around the edges as well as a cute green ribbon bookmark!

Perfection 💚

I wish they had done more of these for Carol Ellis and Richie Tankersley Cusick, however there were only 3 released, the third one being a Caroline B Cooney collection 🥰

Also featured in the photo is the US edition of The Invitation which has the same cover art as the U.K. one (one of those rare occasions the U.K. kept the original cover art), same tagline, same font etc although Diane Hohs name is in the normal font on the U.K. edition. I still had to add it to my collection though 😜

Same book, Kindle Edition…..

It’s #talespointhorrorbookclub day tomorrow so I thought I would share anOpen Road reissue of The Invitation which was specifically rereleased for kindle. Some of the Point Horrors got this treatment in recent years and luckily a lot of Diane Hoh books, including some not published in the U.K., were released!

Open Road Integrated Media or ORIM is a digital media company in New York City that was created by Jane Friedman and Jeffrey Sharp in 2009 with a focus on publishing ebook editions of older works of literature and nonfiction.

It makes Point Horror and reading some of the books a lot more accessible and I love that!

Some of the covers are not as iconic as the originals, like this one with an empty chair, but we will gloss over that 😂

Let’s shine a light on Diane Hoh books that were released under the Point Horror banner here in the U.K. 💜

We got five entries in the U.K. (excluding Nightmare Hall) and they had some of the most iconic Point Horror covers! 😍

“Diane Hoh (b. 1937) is a bestselling author of young adult fiction. Born in Warren, Pennsylvania, Hoh began her first novel, Loving That O’Connor Boy (1985), after seeing an ad in a publishing trade magazine requesting submissions for a line of young adult fiction. After contributing novels to two popular series, Cheerleaders and the Girls of Canby Hall, Hoh found great success writing thrillers, beginning with Funhouse (1990), a Point Horror novel that became a national bestseller. Following its success, Hoh created the Nightmare Hall series, whose twenty-nine installments chronicle a university plagued by dark secrets, and the seven-volume Med Center series, about the challenges and mysteries in a Massachusetts hospital. In 1998, Hoh had a runaway hit with Titanic: The Long Night and Remembering the Titanic, a pair of novels about two couples’ escape from the doomed ocean liner. She now lives and writes in Austin”

We’ve read all of these Point Horror entries except The Fever so far so we must do that for the book club soon!

Did you know that this month’s #talespointhorrorbookclub read, The Invitation by Diane Hoh, featured alongside Mothers Helper by A Bates & Beach Party by R L Stine in the first Point Horror trio collection!

I’ve always loved how sinister the covers of the trios were and this one is no exception, just look at that creepy skull covered in what looks like desert sand! We will just skip over that the cover doesn’t match the stories inside as it was for pure spooky vibes only! 😜

Memorable For – Slasher vibes and catty girls!

Some Thoughts -

It’s 5 weeks till prom and everyone is looking forward to it. The Prom venue has been picked over at the Newly refurbished Halsey Manor House, in the middle of the fear street woods which just so happens to be where the body of a dead girl has just been recovered. 5 Prom queens have been selected and the winner will receive a 3000 dollar scholarship but someone seems to be killing off the Prom Queens one by one! Do they want to win the money or are they just after that crown?!

Other highlights include first person narrative, a girls who really should not be friends with each other, douche bag guys, lots of The Sound of Music chat due to the upcoming pre prom Shadyside High production and a good reveal.

I really enjoyed this one, full of slasher vibes (especially Scream 2) albeit I wanted a bit more slasher vibes at Prom action but the kills are delicious and gory enough to satisfy!

I’ve been collecting the new cover editions of Fear Street and I’ve preordered the release of The Prom Queen which is being released to tie in with the movie release next year.

I had to get creative with my picture to showcase it. It is due for release July 2025 🎉

Released in 1996 the font style is the same as the U.K. released Fear Street so I’m presuming that this was a U.K. released book.
